Agreed!

Wow! I wonder if the front end on that had any part of inspiring the E and F diesel units. Never noticed the really strong resemblance before.

It does sort of look like a diesel nose and cab, doesn't it?   Built 1936, there were already a few streamline trainsets with similar styling, and EMD's EA was introduced the next year.  I'd guess not so much inspiration for the diesels as what was considered stylish at the time.

I was asking for state of the art FA's; clearly there were a number of iterations done badly and I don't care how well some of them pulled. Still own quite a few, but the amount if effort it takes to bring them up to par is too much.... I need several sets. We have more F unit releases that one can shake stick at, but no comparable quality FA's... and they were the major competitor during the time covered wagons ruled.

My ABBA set of FA1's are the best locomotives I have, how could they be improved?

Well, I'd like these to look a little more like those....
And I'd like to have them more DCC friendly, the LL's are a pita, especially if you have 12 to do :D
And I'd like finer flanges, so I can run them on my code 40 sidings...

Done. I think the aspect ratio of the UP photo is a little off. Here is your photo adjusted to match.

Yes the number boards are different and a few other small details......

Here is a more correct photo.

This is an FA2 which is even longer and should look more squished, not less.
