He specifically mentioned that the Silver Streak sells so well because it is small enough to run on most any layout. I think that would be an impediment to longer trains like the Denver Zephyr or North Coast Limited.

I should have asked if they had other pike sized streamlines like the Wabash Blue Bird or Great Northern Internationals were in the mix.

Talked to the Kato rep at the San Antonio WGH show. Said both the SDP's and the SW Limited are on time, and all but confirmed that they will make the freight ( ASTF Notched nose) versions in the ATSF and Maresk schemes.

I pleaded for more sets of Phase 1 sleepers, like a 2 car Palm of Pacific series set or a 3 car step down-0regular-stepd down set of Hi Levels, or at least a Sunset Limited or ATSF San Francisco Chief leg rest coach.

They also hinted that since the Silver Streak Zephyr has been such a success, they are thinking of maybe doing another small early train, like the Rock Island's original 1937 Texas or Peoria Zephyrs.

Kato had a poll on tweeter last week about trainset size and if you wanted a loco or not. I think they like the success they had with the bookcase trainset like the Silver Streak and the Amtrak sets.
Which ever side of the track I am on is the right side.

Great Northern Badger and Gopher. Anyone, anyone?

Model Railroader had a few good articles on pike size passenger trains. Kato should have a look at those articles.

Yeah, right.  5 foobie cars and a GN E8 maybe.

Did either one use the ex-UP 44 seat coaches?

Probably, as they were used system wide.  They even showed up on the Empire Builder a few times, as fill-ins.

Awesome.  8) Need cars to pull behind it (not the west coast train).

Ugh, why can't Kato tool some accurate cars for the GN?, these two trains should be a home run for this new format (if this indeed becomes a new format for Kato).

Kato does have the F7, at least.
I’m not here to argue

I'd settle for the smoothside Budd dome coaches, if they don't want to do the entire train.  The ConCor version is showing its age...  The roof is identical to the stainless steel version they already make, so part of the tooling can be reused.

These (in the Amtrak phase I scheme) are going to be impossible to justify on my layout but equally difficult to resist.
