Apologies if this has been posted before, but just came across this amazing site "Lesser Known & Obscure Railroads of Alaska"
https://saveitforparts.wordpress.com/projects/lesser-known-and-obscure-railroads-of-alaska/

Not only does it have a kabillion maps & photos embedded into the post, but there are a kabillion more linked into text.
I've already spent an hour scrolling through & barely scratched (clicked?) the surface.

Some fun finds:

Log Hauler

[Check out the dude steering on the front!]
Would make a unique flatcar load.

AJ Mine

[At top right you can see a long cut of gons on the electrified line]

Would need a container crate to fit a Free-moN module that size  :scared:

Anyway, lots of groovy stuff.

Nice, thanks!  A good read with references to many small railways associated with mines is Rickard's "Through Alaska and the Yukon", written at the turn of the 19th century and available free on Google.  He is a famous mining engineer who wrote extensively (and in interestingly) about mining in western North America.

The AJ mine was near Juneau, I think...
