This site: https://www.flickr.com/photos/mbernero/sets/72157660532470228 is a huge photo gallery belonging to Mr. Melvin Bernero who photographed 90% of the early Amtrak fleet..... very cool pictures and an awesome gesture to have made them publically available.

Just thought the Amtrak modellers would be interested.
Model railroading isn't saving my life, but it's providing me moments of joy not normally associated with my current situation..... Train are good!

Is it me or is Flickr painfully slow?

It's fast enough for me, although it does have an odd pause halfway through each page, as it loads the second half.  What I find annoying is the request to log in on every page.  It simply won't take "NO" for an answer.  The box goes away when it's told to, but is back on the next page.

Some HAD to be taken on the east coast, because they clearly show PRR catenary, and a few have GG-1s.  Others are clearly Chicago, with a few showing BN switchers.  I wonder if he might have been working for Amtrak on one of the NEC-Chicago routes?

He's also answered my question of a few months ago, "How many cars hadn't been repainted in 1974?".  It looks like at least one of every GN and NP type Amtrak inherited hadn't been repainted by 7-74, which will make assembling an Empire Builder, or North Coast Hiawatha, easier when Kato's new SDP40Fs arrive.  The exact car name I have may not have been unrepainted, but the overall mix will be acceptable.

Just getting started but came across this shot and was wondering if these are Pennsy cars?

Looks like about 75% Chicago but he clearly got around to former Pennsy territory as well, and there's a batch that I'm just about positive are in front of the King Dome in Seattle.

While they are not labeled by location, they do include something that I think most will agree is better: heritage.  Which means if you are interested in former cars of a particular roadname, you can just search his photostream for it.   My ATSF research just took a leap forward.

Very nice!  I did spot a P42 and Phase IV painted cars in the pre-1980s photos. Violation!  ;)
