hobby shops/layouts around Arlington, Texas?

So what hobby shops should I hit around Arlington, Texas? I'll be flying in tomorrow and leaving Saturday for our annual BNSF Signal Department start up meetings and safety classes. What should I check out? I'm out of class by 4 or 5 so hopefully something that stays open until after 6. Any good layouts to hit up?

Well as far as hobby shops with N scale goes there are none in Arlington anymore, but there are two very good ones in the metroplex. Hobby World in Fort Worth is probably easier to get to and sells at a nice discount. The other, which is even better and also discount, is up in Addison on the north side of Dallas. Both of them have listings in Model Railroaders 'Leading Model Retailers' section in the back of the magazine. The other shops in the metroplex tend to cater to other scales and/or are full price.

Dmt....n scale inventory has gone down hill, yes they still have stuff..but not like it used to be. Hobby world will have stuff that is hard to find..prices are so so.

As far as layouts a few of the guys on the n scale side here have layouts...rossford yard and coldrvr..and some others.

I like to visit Model Railroad Crossing, 1113 W Pipeline Road, Suite 125, Hurst TX; phone 817-595-0800;  they have a good web site.  Buddy is the owner and knows trains (all scales).  He is an old time hobby shop man who can answer your questions.  Sure, he is retail, but he has an outstanding collection of Micro-Trains cars, plus many hard to find things in all scales.  He does close at 5 PM, but open Saturdays.  His shop is in a strip shopping center just a couple of blocks South East of NorthEast Mall in Hurst.  Enjoy the Golden Oldie rock music while you shop!  Hurst is North of Arlington.

Is your training at HQ, or actually at some hotel or conference center in Arlington?

If at HQ, Angelo's on Rufe Snow in North Richland Hills has come up a bit in N and is a nicer shop than the old one.  Probably closest to BNSF HQ.

With a week of nights at your disposal, I would bet a few of us N scalers close by would meet you one night for dinner.  Certainly welcome to come visit my layout but I am 20 miles south in Mansfield.  My old layout was in Arlington and would have been real convenient.  You can PM if you have any questions.

I was at DMT on Saturday. The inventory is greatly depleted and hasn't been replenished in quite some time. Its too bad that this has happened, but it is a sign of the times.
