I'm attempting to replicate a fairly unique scene, a Union Pacific helper facility that used to sit at the base of Cajon Pass adjacent to the ATSF San Bernardino yards. It was built during WWII to deal with wartime traffic, and consisted of a two stall house, and fuel, sand and water facilities. A very "UP" 65K gallon water tank built to Harriman standards dominated the scene. I've been wondering how to model the spidery support legs for the tank in N scale, but voila, Randy at RRRarch has made a very similar SP tank available to us N scalers at Shapeways (with a bit of urging from me and my friends). I just got my copy last night, soaked it in Bestine for a few hours, and all I can say is wow! I'm one happy camper, the tower really sets the tone... see below. The ladder is the only thing that's a bit fat to print in N scale, but its easily replaceable with brass. On mine it sits on the back side, so I'm not going to bother anytime soon. Now on go the other structures... :D

That looks great Otto! I'm still struggling to even fit San Berdoo in my layout room so I doubt I'll be picking one up.

Otto, it looks great ,I have a couple of loco shells in FUD, and have not even started on them. Do you soak in Bestine overnight? or just a couple of hours? then a good rinse and primer before paint? I have read about 3 articles and they vary quite a bit on the process. Any pointers would be helpful. Thanks, Gordon

Nice model, but judging by its size, it must have set you back few hundred buckaroos.

Looks great . Let me know when you do a shell of that H-20-44 that's in the proto shot . That is where they hung out .

Peteski, $59.95, the tank is hollow, and I had $30 credit with Shapeways, so I got a hell of a deal on this... :D
Actually, N scale FUD is relative affordable, it's all about the volume of the FUD material...
Hopefully, Randy will get a handful of N scale orders to make it worth his while.... The HO version is MUCH more expensive  :o

Yeah Richie, that's where the 20-44's hung out all right. Unfortunately, it's not the shell that's the problem, it's the 27' truck centers that's the challenge...

Otto and Richie, I have a shell done. I'll get a picture off it tomorrow. I have yet to even mess with a mechanism for it. I was thinking about using one of the small greenmax chassis or something of the sort.

Otto, I saw that on Shapeways and want one for a future module.
Thanks for pushing the designer to make it in N! I've seen the HO version in person and it looks good. I didn't get a chance to get too close but I will next time.

  The A C Y in Akron Ohio had number of th,e H-20-44 s. I have been looking for a shell two.. I have the H10-44 built ,running on my layout nice shell

Lol Jeff, but I'm not sure you'd know what to do with a steam engine  :D
It would have to be one of the H 20-44's, like the ones below, if Drasko or someone can figure out a proper chassis for them...
