Trying to Get Home for the Holidays!

The Mid-Atlantic forecast is 70 degrees on Christmas Eve??? It is a good thing I model the Pennsylvania-Reading Seashore Lines in the early 1950s. It used to occasionally snow on Christmas back then. From my 30th Street Station module: “Trying to Get Home for the Holidays!”

The Castlegar Station scratchbuild continues...the prototype had an interesting two-tone paint scheme through the era I am modeling with a cream coloured stucco on the second floor and bright white clapboard siding on the lower floor.  The roof and awning contours are also very complicated.  This small station (2.5"x3.5" footprint) has been an interesting build so far.  I still have to add corner trim on the lower floor.  A sheet of 0.02" thick styrene roof shingles showed up yesterday so I hope to get to the roof next week.

First cell phone grabs.... the Kantu Division of the Puddington Valley - one half of the layout..... there will be a scenic divider on the back to divide the layout...









The code 55 has been laid, power drops are in.... the roads are roughed in and the buildings are placed..... a couple of foal hills have been added.... electrical testing is underway as we hook up drops....

Still riding my current wave of motivation, I finally painted and put decals on two locos I started about 10 years ago.

This one is a SD38-2 kitbashed from a Kato SD40-2 and an Atlas GP38-2




And a Life-Like SW900 with Athabasca etched handrails.

Did you narrow the Kato hood?  How'd you do it?

Beautiful work, Craig.  I have Mark IV shells for both the SD38-2s and the SD38 AC.  After 5 or 6 years I've still not done anything with them.  Where did you get the BC Hydro Rail decals?  The painting and decaling have always been the things that have held me back.

and here's a picture showing where I made the cut.Nothing was narrowed there was no need for it.The shell pieces are edge glued and have survived 5 years and 3 paint jobs with no problems.

I did it a long time ago and don't rememeber any narrowing either. Mine are edge glued as well. I have another waiting for yellow BCH paint. I'll snap a pic of it so you can see it in bare plastic.

Thanks Scott. The masking of the handrails was a major pain but I'm pleased with the result.

I cleaned up Hagerstown yard from ballast work with the vacuum, which quickly showed areas I didn't glue.    So I got the ballast back out to fill in the spots.  While that was drying, I got all my 4-axle power out and gave them the Bearden treatment of removing the inside bearing block.  Also found another engine that doesn't have a decoder in it that I missed, so I have to add that to the list.  Still waiting for MBK to ship order from Wednesday, figured it would at least be on the way but I'm sure this time of year there are 1000 more orders with mine.
