Does anyone make resin castings of the fans and Garland vents that go on the roof of heavyweight Pullman cars, in N scale?

@Bobster Not sure, but if you can compile some info (drawings or reference info) I can make some available on Shapeways, if they are at scale large enough.  Some parts are just too tiny, I am finding...

Something else that is needed and not likely to be seen done by Micro-Trains is roofs for the Pullmans for modeling cars without AC ducts.  There were a lot of Plan 3410 and Plan 3416 parlor cars that never received AC ducts that went on to serve as tourist sleepers and troop sleepers that ran into the 1950s in such service that, at present, can't be modeled because there are not an appropriate roof replacement available.  It would be great if one of the Shapeways designers could draw roofs for this purpose... it would go a long ways to covering what was so common for so many years, including the era for modelers before AC started to be applied to these cars in the early 30s.

I meant to say that I can probably help find shots of cars without the AC ducts that can be used as a reference for how the cars looked.

Worse comes to worse maybe someone can get some of those Bethlehem Car Works parts so you can get accurate measurements so that the parts can be scaled correctly.

The bad part about American Ltd. Models roof detail not being available is that some of the pieces they had were adaptable to heavyweight cars.  If they ever find a fix for ejecting the parts from the molds there will be at least some things that could help improve the appearance of the MT cars.

Can't the old Rivarossi/Atlas/ConCor roofs be modified to be used on the MTL cars?

Not really.  Not only are they slightly smaller but the ends are wrong as well so fitting them to the MTs are nearly impossible.  Choosing the pediment ends on the MT Pullmans really changed one's ability to use similar parts.  The cars represent cars built after, IIRC, 1923 and cover all the Plan 3xxx and Plan 4xxx heavyweight cars, along with coaches, baggage cars and the like built by Pullman so adapting things is rather difficult to do.  That's why I hope a Shapeways designer can create prints of the roofs without the AC ducts because it would open up doors to model a number of other cars that had the pediment ends.

Good evening,

glakedylans item 256 is part of what I have in mind.   I have some fairly decent pictures I took and some drawings I found on the net but no dimensions.  I've googled all kinds of vent related items but not much luck.  I'm also thinking of the square 10 inch power exhaust fan housings visible on some cars.   I don't have a photo bucket account but if someone would like to get me their e-mail I could send them the pictures for posting or casting purposes.  I also realize these little devils would be fairly small.  Delta Models makes the vents on O scale. "BTS0442" maker unknown to me, I believe makes them in HO.   In October 2014 I saw the fan housing advertised as "kit 392" but I have no idea of the scale or who makes it.

Not impossible, just a big pain.  I added the MTL ends to the middle of a RR roof, then overlayed styrene to get the proper overhang along the clearstory top.

@Bobster , All, designs for the vents and fans are now available at Keystone Details.  The kit includes 16 vents and 8 fans.  Hope they fill everyone's needs from the prior posts.

The vents are designed to fit on a filled clerestory, and the fans are designed to match the curvature of the roof below the clerestory.
