KATO FEF-3+ESU LOK Sound Micro V4.0=Soundfile XXX?

Hi Everyone, calling out all the way from Holland.

I want to install an ESU Loksound Micro V4.0 in a KATO N-scale FEF-3, but can't find the right sound file.
I know this would be the right place to see if I need to order an ESU Select and use my Micro V.0 in one of my F7's!

Greetings

Frank Klein, Zaandam

Hi
I got mine from Streamline Back Shops (sales@sbs4ddc.com).
Their part number was 73800 which I think indicated the sound for the FEF-3
This is what I ordered.

SBS4DCC 1206 SMD Warm White LED Pre-Wired 38ga Magnet Wire SBS-1206-WW-P 1 $3.60 $3.60
SBS4DCC 0603 SMD Red LED Pre-Wired 38ga Magnet Wire SBS-0603-RD-P 1 $3.60 $3.60
SBS4DCC 1000 uF 25V Radial Capacitor SBS-C-R-25-1000 1 $1.50 $1.50
ESU 73800 LokSound Select Micro NMRA DCC Sound Decoder NEM652 8-Pin Wired Plug
Sound File Number: For FEF 3 73800 1 $80.75 $80.75
SBS4DCC "Sugar Cube" Speaker 11x15mm 8 ohm 1 watt w/ Sound Chamber 4053 1 $9.45 $9.45
Gardner Bender Liquid Electrical Tape - Black SBS-GB-LTB400 1 $12.49 $12.49
TCS 32 Gauge Wire - 10ft Black/White Stripe TCS1523 1 $5.88 $5.88

Subtotal:  $117.27
Shipping & Handling:  $12.64
Tax:  $0.00

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Order Total:  $129.91

If I had wanted the fire box flicker, I should have ordered another SBS4DCC 0603 SMD Red LED Pre-Wired 38ga Magnet Wire SBS-0603-RD-P 1 $3.60 $3.60

The 73800 item is a generic sound Micro Select. Streamline Back Shops likely procured these and installed the FEF sound.

Did some digging, and found on youtube the Back Shop showing a video of their FEF install. He names a sound file he used, but either it's a custom file, or he added a digit because I could not find the file names on the ESU web page. The UT link is https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X_402zQcjEE. It sounds like he used a steam sound file that includes a UP style whistle which truth be told is one of few 'unique' sounds that would be identifiable as UP.

He used a 73817 sound file which per ESU is a "Steam Locomotive Collection" for the Micro

Thanks guys for the quick response.
I will try to load the mentioned file on the Micro V4.0
Don't know if a select sound file will work with a Micro V4.0

Will be continued.

Just a heads up this question:

Yesterday loaded a diesel file for the Micro V4.0 and that works fine, but loading the SBS4DCC file I get the message that the file won't load on a NON Select decoder.
Bit frustrating this..having the TOP Decoders but no files to load. Just wan't to have some steam engine's running (KATO FEF-3 and the KATO GS4)  :?

Frank, you need a Loksound Select decoder to load a Loksound Select file. Unfortunately that same file is not available in V4.0 format.

Try sending a E-Mail to Matt at ESU in the USA.  : matthew.herman@loksound.com
Ask for the sound file for the FEF. He should have some info about it somewhere.
It is being made for the factory DCC with sound FEF from Kato.

Greetings all,

Matt Herman had a FEF on a test loop at their booth at Train Fest last week. Sounded pretty good. Did NOT inquire as to what file he used...
