...Given the perceived mass of the turbine, those straps aren't likely to hold it back for long if it decided to shift:

Hmm... told ya... duct
tape...

Two scientists create a teleportation ray, and they try it out on a cricket. They put the cricket on one of the two teleportation pads in the room, and they turn the ray on.
The cricket jumps across the room onto the other pad.

They're not straps, I'm guessing they are rods that are welded.

All,

I will point you to the gray and yellow Siemens-Westinghouse Turbine in the Thursday Proto-photo 5-7-15.   Sorry I don't remember how to make an active link.

I have looked ar all of the prototype photos available and I can see no evidence beyond the rods.  Keep in mind those slots on the side of the car are about 2" wide and the rods fill them.  I think they are steel threaded rods with hooks that go into the slots.  Please reference this page:

http://www.kohs.com/PRR_Flat_Car_Pages/PRR_FD_FW_Prototypes.html

Kohs is hnown for its prototype fidelity.

I'm not worried so much about the fore/aft as I think the rods handle that as they are not all vertical. What surprises me is that there are no sideways stops or rods that I can see in the photos.

I also remember reading that movements with these items were never done in a full train, but a special slow moving train was used.

Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't that nice and very clear model photo being used for reference here?  Possibly a brass model?  They migth not have modeled all the hardware used on the 1:1 setup.

Eric220,

Yes that's the picture.  It is a newer variant of the turbine.  Looking at the pictures now posted I'm left to the conclusion that this particular turbine in the photo does not have the shipping braces I have mentioned.   I would still bet this turbine was bolted to the flatcar.   The flatcar in the picture is also bigger than what I normally see out back of the Siemens / Westinghouse buildings I drive by.

Have a good evening all,
Bobster

Oh, I see.  I just kept seeing this photo being repeatedly referenced in this thread

and that looked like a model to me (which might not be 100% prototypical).  Thanks for pointing me to the photos of the real car with the turbogenerator.

Got to clean things up a little bit. Overdid the glue reinforcements. Maybe a new sign, possibly one printed in photo paper and larger.

I don't know if you already did it, but I bet if you hit that thing with a shot of Dull Cote, it will disguise those
little glue marks.  The only reason they really show is because they are shiny against a flat-finish car,
and because you are taking a super close-up macro photo  I bet they would be invisible to the human eye,
even close-up, especially if you put some flat finish on there.  Looks good.

Damn, that sign doesn't look great at that size, the printer just didn't do a good job of it.

I think you're right, trying it on a photo printer might help.
