I guess it was technically possible, but I thought I'd never see one of these in the flesh in south Illinois, not in a million years. Railcam capture:

Mike - was that actual power or being hauled somewhere?

The GMD-1? I think there are a few in Arkansas too... Nice catch either way.

Went to the CRRM last weekend and they had the MARS light operating on the DRGW F9.

Mike - was that actual power or being hauled somewhere?

I think it was being hauled. Probably the same for the GP40-2W ahead of it.

We've been getting a few of these dead-in-transit treasures through here in the past couple of months. I posted a Bombardier HR412W a few weeks ago, and week before last we had a pair of E8s in IC colors (no decent captures), and a couple of F-units en route to/from somewhere. In early September a couple of Belt Railway of Chicago Geeps came through... it might have been on NS... but it really captured my attention since BRC power is not exactly something you find in a lease pool.

Which reminds me, I have to get my butt out of this chair and go hang around the layout building. @MRLX1020 texted me that there was a private varnish special heading our way this afternoon on NS. This line (ex-SOU, Louisville-St. Louis) hasn't seen passenger service since long before Amtrak, so this is making some rare-mileage fans very, very happy.

Here's the private varnish special I was talking about earlier. Passed through here about two hours ago. Nice stuff!

Many thanks to Justin for the heads-up on this. He called with a status just in time for me to fish Robyn out of the bathtub with a "It's nearly here!" I rarely see her move fast for much of anything, but she was out, dressed and ready to go in mere seconds... hmmm... :D

Should be enough former UP cars in there to keep you happy, Mike!  I counted 4 - 1 Dome Obs Northern Sky, 1 Sleeper Lounge Northern Dreams and 2 "Pacific" Series cars - Silver Star (with the blue stripe), and Pacific Sands.  Next up, 2 former CN cars, 2 former PRR cars, 2 former SLSF/MKT Texas Special cars, then 1 each NYC, MILW, SP, C&O/B&O, DRGW, CB&Q, C&EI and BAR.

Nice video - glad I called when I did

What was I saying earlier about weird stuff through town? Here's one from last week I discovered in reviewing railcam recordings - looks like an F40 in a paint scheme not familiar to me, and two units back is a tunnel motor:
