People need to be tolerant of other views.  This is a hobby forum.   The original post was in that spirit and has been hijacked by the same arguments that are made anytime graffiti is mentioned.  Give it a rest.

Guys, just stop it. The purpose of the thread was to share some good graf images to replicate on modern models, not debate the artistic or criminal aspects of the culture.

Tom, where do you draw the line?

I draw the line where, as the two top quotes note here, we are running - not just drifting - from the purpose of the forum.  I'm no mod, but I do agree with them that things are way out of hand.  Is graffiti art?  Is it vandalism? IF we want to debate those propositions, we do that in Crew Lounge.  And we do it respectfully. Which we seem to have lost sight of too many times recently.

And I still want to know who will print these so we can each buy one or two.

Graf, like Bachmann, is invariably a lightning-rod issue. It's going to be tough to steer the focus. I agree that the original posting was some pretty nice art in a "medium" better known for crap scrawling by the untalented.

Tom, I think all you can do grit your teeth and let the garbage run its course, stepping in when it gets nasty, like you already do. We have our moments, don't we?

This one was interesting and actually pretty incredible.  It shows the creation process and technique (and in the daytime!):
It's a Jarus!

Yes, this was a new work as part of the year's Mural Festival.

Here's a Clerihew about Ed. K.

Ed Kapucinski
Every night, he plants a new tree.
But mention his law
and you've pulled your last straw!

Alternate version:
Ed Kapucinski
Every night, he plants a new tree.
He asks excitedly "Did you say Ménage à Trois?"
No, I said "Ed's Law."

Wow, like like German taggers are much more brazen than U.S. ones. And they tagged a well-maintained interurban MU train with the engineer still inside?!  Or did they hijack the train to tag it?  Either way, that takes some ballz.  This seems even more serious criminally than just tagging some old boxcar park in a siding.

just a small comment on this topic....fwiw

being a former resident of Philly
and still living in that area of PA

they started a wonderful project
putting graffiti artists to work painting murals on the side of city buildings
for the most part, the murals are a fantastic work of art

you can google them

At the end of the year, J&L spent $35,000 replacing locks and no they were not purchasing them from a company that was overcharging.

Some graffiti really costs railroads nothing.

Now let me ask you this question, if the person gets hurt while defacing a piece of rolling stock, should they be allowed to sue the company that owned the rolling stock or the land owner where the piece of rolling stock was located?

Of course not.  That's a terrible strawman argument.

Of course not.  That's a terrible strawman argument.

You don't think that if, or when, someone gets hurt tagging railroad equipment, they will not sue? I personally believe there is a good chance they would. I have nothing against lawyers, but I could see a lawyer trying to make a name for him or herself by filing a suit stating, no one tried to stop the person and signs were not posted etc. Yes at this point it's all speculative. Don't laugh, look at the McDonald's lawsuits. I just don't understand why people think it's OK to deface property they do not own. I also hear people talk about tolerance, but what about tolerance to my point of view? We could go back and forth on this for the rest of our lives, so I'm just going to agree that we disagree  :D

Just in case anyone is wondering, I view this is a friendly debate on a current subject.  ;)

There have already been instances where trespassers who have got injured or killed have sued the railroad and won their case.

I don't care if you don't like my attitude. I wasn't born to please everyone, so I am not going to go out of my way to make YOU happy.   8)

Thanks for clarifying what was already crystal clear.  I could now say something now which would get me banned from the forum, but you aren't worth it.  Why not just get back to what Tom had in mind for this thread?
