Honestly, would be a great PR campaign if a progressive RR did something analogous to the BMW Art Cars Series.  http://www.bmwdrives.com/bmw-artcars.php

There are plenty of examples of locomotive, or even full train wraps in Europe, Japan and even in U.S.  But those are done legally, and many actually generate money for the RR (as they are rolling ads).

Who cares about the legality of it. Its not affecting you personally so leave it at that. I for one want to see more pictures.
I love me some graffiti, its why 75% of my rolling stock has some.

While we are being honest, if you woke up tomorrow morning and found someone tagged your personal vehicle you'd be OK with that? or how about the side of your house? Using your logic, it's not affecting me personally so it must be OK. Also just because the majority of people disobey the speed limit, does not mean it's OK. It's not OK to break any law, once we reach a point where the population no longer follows our laws, we have chaos. The only reason this has not become a bigger issue for the railroads is, the people doing the tagging are not getting hurt and suing the railroad and they are not hurting railroad employees while doing the tagging.  This is just another sign of the moral decline not only in this country but around the world.

Two scientists create a teleportation ray, and they try it out on a cricket. They put the cricket on one of the two teleportation pads in the room, and they turn the ray on.
The cricket jumps across the room onto the other pad.

The reason that I don't like graffiti is because at least 95% of it, to me, is just illegible scribble.  I'll agree that maybe 5% of graffiti could be considered art, but I don't like it illegally placed on the side of a rail car.  I can appreciate the rare examples such as "Smurftastic" and the "Jack-O-Lantern," but there's way too much garbage graf out there.  To me, most of it is just an eyesore.

One of the railroaders on this forum said that offensive graffiti is a problem when the cars are at a customer's siding, but essetentially the most rust prone areas of the car are getting a free paint job.

Just my opinion, but I think we've lost some perspective as a society when we equate the property of very large corporations with the property of individual human beings or families.    Are comparisons reasonable?  Sure.   Are they the same thing?  No.  Should the law treat them the same in all situations?  I don't think so.   Which type of situation is this?  Food for thought...

Peteski:  I'm with you on the RailcarPhotos.com posts that I can't see.  I WILL NOT register for a site just to look at a photo, especially without knowing that it's something I really want to see.

SandyEggoJake:  Where was that picture taken?  Certainly not in North America, and the cars don't look quite right for New Zealand pictures I've seen, but they seem familiar.  I could use some for my narrow gauge coal trains.  The picture says "KingCounty.gov, King County, WA", which sounds like Seattle.  Unless there's a King County in Western Australia?

Well Sir Mr. Moderator, I do not like your attitude.
I don't mind modeling graffiti (since it is out there), but I still think it is wrong do deface someone else's property.

Guys, just stop it. The purpose of the thread was to share some good graf images to replicate on modern models, not debate the artistic or criminal aspects of the culture.

Ben,  I do not understand your reasoning? Just because that railroad car was not purchased by a private individual, does not make it OK to deface it.  I just don't understand the reasoning behind, it's OK to steal the latest Windows program because Microsoft is a large corporation, but the person who stole Mrs. Smiths air conditioner should be locked up. Back in the 1970's, J&L Aliquippa Works was having a problem with missing locks for various doors, equipment rooms, etc. It seemed the locks were just disappearing. At the end of the year, J&L spent $35,000 replacing locks and no they were not purchasing them from a company that was overcharging. Do you think it was OK for the employees to just take these locks home for their own personal use? I can tell you where I work, people have been fired for removing scrap metal from the property. The scrap metal belongs to the company, the company purchased the metal, it's theirs to do with what they want.

The bottom line is, it does not matter how nice the picture looks, where the picture was painted did not belong to the person who painted it. Private property is private property regardless who owns it. There have been people fined and jailed for defacing public property, that is why street artist use chalk.

Now let me ask you this question, if the person gets hurt while defacing a piece of rolling stock, should they be allowed to sue the company that owned the rolling stock or the land owner where the piece of rolling stock was located?

People need to be tolerant of other views.  This is a hobby forum.   The original post was in that spirit and has been hijacked by the same arguments that are made anytime graffiti is mentioned.  Give it a rest.
