Here's a Clerihew about Ed. K.

Ed Kapucinski
Every night, he plants a new tree.
But mention his law
and you've pulled your last straw!

Alternate version:
Ed Kapucinski
Every night, he plants a new tree.
He asks excitedly "Did you say Ménage à Trois?"
No, I said "Ed's Law."

Hmm... it blowed up. It
blowed up real good...

Two scientists create a teleportation ray, and they try it out on a cricket. They put the cricket on one of the two teleportation pads in the room, and they turn the ray on.
The cricket jumps across the room onto the other pad.

there are many many cool indicators about this locomotive with these diagrams.

I see some good thing in there- coreless motor with flywheel, WEIGHTED cylinders, traction tires, common drive gears on the axles (able to swap the TT axle to the rear position when ?I make my E6), removable dome,  possible indications of pat availability, such as the pilot assembly, the linkage/cylinders, trailing and pilot trucks, etc.

hope they sell some of the detail parts separately: whistle, blow off valves, headlight housing, steam generator, marker lights?

Heres to hoping.  Mine locos are on their way....

Knowing that the sand dome is removable makes me feel better about it.  Doubtful I could re-contour it gracefully, but I do have a Minitrix shell available as an organ donor.  Once I get my loco from Chuck, I can start taking measurements and see how feasible (i.e., worth it) such a swap-out would be.

Dave, until you said that about the domes, it had not hit me.
All the domes and appliances are separate parts.

Bachmann could do a 2-8-2 L1s using this boiler shell.
Alternatively... folks could use this Bachmann shell (when it comes available as a part) on a Kato 2-8-2 chassis
to make an L1s (now that the GHQ kits are all gone).  The Bachmann parts would also provide the
cab and trailing truck.

Time for a new rant, "We want an L1!"  "We want an L1"   :D

It would also be more in proportion, too!

Lemonsteam,
I thought someone said there were no traction tires on this loco.

Don't you just have to switch the steam and sand dome to make the shell for an L1?  Think that was the only diffference beytween them.

Rick

The pics in the prior thread and the diagram both show a traction tire on the second axle.

It was me who said there was no traction tire, because the one I saw in at the Portland NMRA show didn't have one, and the Bachmann
rep specifically said they decided not to use one on this engine because it wasn't necessary.
He also said they "try to avoid them."    Now, bearing in mind that pretty much every Bachmann engine has them,
this was a silly statement.

But I give him points for letting me touch the throttle so I could slow it down and test it at low speeds.

Dave, I plan on removing the sand dome from my K4, shortening it and making castings.  I should have a few extras if you know anybody that might want one!  Bryan Bussey and I just got playing with our K4's on his layout and life is good.  About the only problem I can see with the engine is that it doesn't say "Lackawanna" on the tender.   :D

FYI, here is the three-chime air horn activated. Sounds pretty good.
