Huh...  Well, that sounds promising.  No sort of delivery schedule in that ad, is there?

From the add in BIG RED LETTERS.

"SHIPPING NOW • MSRP $399.00"

Seems to indicate that many SPFs will have a good holiday season, albeit with thinner wallets.

will you SLPFs be able to bash this into any other models not yet produced?

So...  No one has ever confirmed that this was in the pipeline but suddenly "shipping now?"   :?

Bachmann's always led with announcements well before being ready to ship.  Why different now?  This just seems kinda fishy.  There should have been noise from the N scale PRR group and others in the know before something this big is suddenly is ready to ship.

The October issue is now in the MR All Time Digital archives. I can confirm that page 27 is a full page ad for  Bachman N-Scale PRR K-4 Pacific. Like the Berkshire it is:
  • Shipping Now - MSRP $399
  • DCC-Sound Value Equipped
  • die-cast chassis and motor
  • metal wheels and siderods
  • flywheel equipped
  • see through frame
  • precision motor
  • all-wheel pickup in engine drivers and render (sic)
  • front end details varied depending on model (headlight, generator, pilot, number plates, marker lights)
  • super detailed parts including machined brass safety valves and separately applied tender ladders
  • separately applied metal handrails and stanchions

There are 4 models in 2 variants with 2 paint schemes:

Pre-War with Slat Pilot (and pre-war headlight)
Post War with solid pilot and (post-war headlight)

#5448 - Pre-War
#5440 - Pre-War in special DGLE paint
#1361, 3750 - Post-War

I made a PDF of the ad page but I have no place to post it.  If someone does (assuming the Kalmbach IP lawyers don't mind) I can send it someone to post.

Bachmann has done this before. A few years ago I think the either the EM-1 or the 2-10-2 came out in ads that said shipping now and didn't actually show up for a few months.  Bachmann anticipated and then factory issues held it up.

Holy crap.

Well.

I'll tell ya, I model 1956, but the prewar configuration is so much nicer looking.

Guess I'll have to get one of each!!!

The boiler should be close to the PRR L1s.  The wheel arrangement probably won't lend itself to any other PRR classes due to the large 80-inch drivers.  Other contemporary Pacifics could be a possible kitbashing target.

Other possibilities might have to wait until  is in hand to see what liberties Bachmann had to take with actual dimensions to produce the model.

There's a comment in the new Bachmann steamer thread on Trainboard that the Oct MR has a full page as for N scale 4-6-2 K-4 in 4 schemes with sound. Page 27 is what is said..

Just an FYI..
