Looking for heavyweight trucks with roller bearings

Hello all,

I am planning to bash some rebuilt heavyweight cars, and am wondering if anyone can direct me to a source for appropriate 6 wheel trucks with roller bearings?  A photo that might help clarify what I am asking for

Scratchbuilding sideframes seems a daunting task, although I suppose some sort of kitbash might be plausible if the bearings were available as a separate item.

Any help will be greatly appreciated. (And I always worry when posting something like this that I have missed an obvious source, and the first response will be- "order MT #___________"- we'll see)

I have no idea.  The only "heavyweight" trucks with roller bearings I know of in N scale are on the Bachmann Santa Fe dome car, and they're far to modern for what you want.

How about the 6-wheel trucks from Kato's Broadway Ltd.?

EDIT: Why didn't I think of this earlier? Duh!

If you can't find that (or a stand-in) truck in Spookshow's Truck Encyclopedia  then it probably doesn't exist.

        As far as I know no one makes or has manufactured an upgraded heavyweight passenger car truck with roller bearings unless a brass model maybe of a Santa Fe car from Pecos River Brass had them. The six wheeled trucks under the Bachmann "Big Dome" car and the Kato El Cap Hi Level diner represent modern Budd prototypes, and the six wheel trucks under the Kato Union Pacific COLA train set baggage/ mail storage car is of a 1949-50 ACF prototype. How about a Shape Ways project? Nate Goodman (Nato). Salt Lake, Utah.

Looks to me that the Des Plaines Hobbies SP 6-TCA-1 DPN-1006 is about as close to what you are looking for as you will get.

Let's just wait and see what MTL does with the horse car. The prototype had roller bearing trucks.

Thanks all for the replies.  Had not thought about the upcoming MT horse car- which might indeed be an easy answer (especially given that I intend to use a couple as "fodder" for kitbashing and cores).  The MT foray into head end cars and diners has helped alleviate the truck shortage for passenger car modelers.

I should have noted the SP 6 wheel trucks from Des Plaines as well- jumped right over that whole section on Spookshow's site because I (mistakenly) associated the "early" with plain (ie- friction) bearings.

As for the SP 6-TCA-1 it is a lightweight truck that is similar to the earlier designs but still is a bit different.  It might satisfy a person's desire for a more modern truck but it is not truly accurate for heavyweights.  These trucks were used on early NYC dining cars as well as several car types for the Espee and on GM&O lightweight coach and parlor cars.
