Narrow gauge door layout, Nn3, HOn3, On30?

Any scale tagged n-30 is 30" gauge.The whole reason it was created in the first place was to get affordable narrow gauge.On30 really took off once Bachmann started producing it.Personally I never let that 6" difference bother me because it was still very ovious that it wasn't standard gauge.

I don't have narrow gauge anymore as I was getting in to deep in to many scales.I miss it but I ain't going back to it.

Jason, Bachmann recognized they had a problem and were offering replacement gears for their locos.

When was this, because I tried to get gears a couple years ago and couldn't get anywhere with the parts department?

3 of my Bachmann On30 locomotive had cracked gears and sat on a shelf for many years, just last year all the On30ers wrote a letter to Bachmann about the cracked gears. It took a while, but Bachmann sent me all new gear and many extras for my Shay, Climax, and Railbus. Kind of too late though since I now have no plans for On30...

On30 would really be my answer if it wasnt for space. A O scale layout on a door would be pretty crowded I think. Thats why I considering HOn30 or maybe HOn3. I dont plan to have too many locos, 3 maybe 4 at most. I'm not dead set on D&RGW, just dead set on having at least one K27 in my fleet lol

I think the letter threatened legal action. Either way I put my name on the list and about a year later the gears showed up in the mail.

A K27 on a door-sized layout sounds like a stretch since it's a pretty major locomotive for narrow gauge--especially in O-scale. Be sure to check the loco's minimum radius or you'll be stuck with just going back and forth.

It sounds to me like you need to start toying around with pencil and paper before you make any purchasing decisions. Fitting all the railroading you want into that small of space is going to take a bit of shoe-horning. Some of the guys from this forum are damn good at shoe-horning small layouts so getting advice should not be a problem. Of course you'll have to move the thread to the layout section.

 I've got a Blackstone K 27 and some of their cars . After looking around a bit I've figured that about the smallest layout I can make with continuous running is going to be 3' x 5'. Got to have at least 16" radius curves for this loco.  And anything smaller than a 1' x 8' switching layout just wont really work . And that's where I'm stuck till I find the room  for another layout ......LOL

After measuring for the radius I would need and brainstorming some track plans, plus research into sub-3' narrow gauge out west, concludes I will be going with HOn30. I really like the RTR Minitrains HOn30 offerings, plus I see quite a few kits and write ups on converting N scale locos and rolling stock. The idea is a gold mine setting in 1890's California, with the 2' line hauling to the standered gauge mainline.

Narrow Gauge and a door layout I would go Blackstone C-19 all the way. These little gems are so nice. The sound is incredible.

republic has no rtr, all are kits, and if Marshall gets sick, who will take over? Tom Knapp already sold Marshall all of his masters

I do plan on getting a Blackstone model one day even tho it wont work on any layout of mine, the craftsmanship looks amazing
