Well that huge gap in the track sure is PCesque!  :D

Nope. I went with the vanilla worms.

One of these days I'll get something with a red or orange variation, but you know me, I like to model the boring stuff.

But why did I want them? Cause of lashups like this.

Most proto PC photos include at least one derailed car or locomotive, plus a wrecking crane.

Didn't they revise the tooling on the GP40 a few years ago?  I recently bought some undec shells and the hood detail is outstanding.

I don't really know why but from the first time I ever saw a black PC loco with the white logo and worms, it has never been boring to me.

I guess it looks like ominous power.

I think It's always been this good.

After hand painting my pair of Conrail ones, I came to realize that these really are fantastic. Even the diagonal mesh behind the main radiator grills is represented. They really are incredibly well done.

I wish the GP38-2s that followed them were as sharp.

If only they would retool the shells for the GP-35's, 30's and 7/9's in the same fashion with the full walkways with nicer handrails. Even just a redo on the sills would be great. Always found it odd they retooled the GP-40/40-2's but not the previously mentioned.

Plus you can do this with them

They did refer to the LTEX SD40T-2s as Darth Vader units

Looks like these are hot items.

I’m guessing many of you  saw my post regarding buying just an assembled GP-40 shell decorated for PC from Atlas. When I saw the announcement that they was doing a GP-40 in PC, I really wanted to get one. However, money was/is tight so I thought a replacement shell would be a less expensive route. I have and Atlas GP38 and GP38-2 in PC and they’re very nicely done.

Speaking of GP38-2s, I happened upon some ex-PC units in NS paint near my home this past Saturday. It was surprising to see something other than a six axle, safe cab locomotive, let alone an ex-PC geep. I took a few pictures (mostly of the below deck stuff to help) with a detailing project I’m planning for my HO scale Atlas GP38-2…in PC of course.
Thanks, Mark

I didn't think the GP-40/40-2 were retooled. When was the first version?

The GP40 was retooled in the early 2000s around the time the GP38 was first released... The GP40-2 was not however...

The shells I referred to seem to be a couple of steps above my GP38's as well. I figured it must have been a retool, based on that comparison.  I don't have any of the first GP40 run from 1999 (?) or the GP38-2's (yet) to compare to though.

If it was, they chose not to correct the fan housings.  Dash 2's shouldn't have the hub covers on the grilles.

Maybe it was just the GP-40's but the original run of Atlas/China GP-40's had the sill separate from the walkway/railings. The latter retool, has a solid sill/walkway with separate handrails.

With the two piece sill and walkway/railings leaves a lot of work to rebuild with fine scale handrails, combined with potentially destroying a factory paint job. Additionally what I've found with the two piece sill and walkway/railings is fitment issues that take a little work to adjust since they're delrin.

I'm really hoping that retools are in the future to bring the 30/35 and 7/9's upto the S2 level of quality and detail. Somewhat imagine that will happen now that everyone is on the DCC + Sound kick.
