Here we have another example of what  :tommann: is good at: weathering the heck out of just about anything! Awesome job Tom!

As far as the bumper (or is it a ram?) goes, if you could find some small rail with a proper cross-section that would make it look even awesomer!  :D  What is the smallest available rail?  Code 40 or 30?  That might do the trick, or OTOH, it might look too large.   Also, the truck's bumper is supposed to be in the center of the rail-ram. Moving the rail-ram up would also move the lice nce plates up to the correct location.  yeah I know, we are talking about 1:160 scale truck.  :D

I don't think that it would have the correct rail profile.  I seem to recall DKS mentioning that even code 20 rail was just a flat brass wire (not a true rail).

It looks like 25# Crane rail to me.

By the way: there are at least 3 trucks used in the movie. Compare this shot:

What is different besides toe Peterbilt logo on the hood of 2 of them?  Position of the wiper plades?

If there are 3 then you will have to weather 3 models too. Get ready to spend some serious money to buy 2 more models!   :D

Heh. Yup. That train scene was filmed after the TV release as padding for theatric and home video releases.

The original one was destroyed at the end of the TV movie.  The train scene and school bus scene trucks aren't as weathered.

The air cleaner on the first is the same colour as the truck, the second shot it is orange on the lower two thirds and yes the wipers are in a different position also.

Since you only need 1.5" tops why not make rail with the correct profile? You could skrawk it or you could flycut it from sheet. FWIW it looks just fine the way it is.

Little more work on the Duel truck tonight.  I painted the hub blacker, but some clips from the movie show the right side hub the lighter color I had yesterday.  Also, my white balance was off in yesterday's photo and made the colors look a little bit warm.  I also bent the mirrors in. Good call.

Preview of the trailer.  I'm trying to match the rust streaks and areas to actual truck in the movie.

I'm still not sure what to do with the bumper.  Do any of you guys know of some ibeam-like thingy that would be smaller than the rail?  Should I just use one rail?

Perhaps it's just the version of the truck used in the added scenes (reply #19 in this thread) but it looks to me like you've attached the top rail to the bumper when the rails should be just above and below the bumper kinda like a sandwich.

Just a thought.

Regards,

Brad.

How about using some brass I beam instead of rail? They have a very fine profile and some very small sizes.
http://www.specialshapes.com/Beams.html for example.

Best wishes, Dave

I looked there earlier but since the smallest I-Beam is 1/16"  (0.0625") which is larger than code 55 rail, I decided it wasn't worth mentioning.
