I also received the email from BLI that the Centipedes are in final assembly at the factory and will be arriving within the next three weeks.

I didn't reserve any of these, maybe I should reconsider...

These haven't seemed to have generated a lot of excitement from SPF's, from what I can tell.... But I'm pretty amped to get one. Should look good, it's uniquely Pennsy and hopefully, it will be a good runner.

NYC box cars have arrived. Just got the message that they will ship soon.

Box cars have arrived, centipedes arriving soon, now only the M1 ..... Unfortunately, the M1 is now pushed back to March.

Baldwin Centipedes due July 2015 now August 2015 still September 2015 now October 2015 still November 2015 now January 2016 now February 2016 moved up to January 2016 (although I think this is optimistic given container shipping times).

PRR M1a/b due August 2015 now Fall 2015 (!) now October 2015 still November 2015 still December 2015 now January 2016 now February 2016 now March 2016 (Unless they get them out before Chinese New Year it will really be April or May).

K7a stock cars due Fall 2015 still November 2015 still December 2015 now January 2016 now February 2016 now March 2016 (see above).

New run of ALCo PA/PB still Spring 2016 still May 2016 (and the catalog page now says Spring 2016)

If you want to know what BLI still has in it's warehouse they have a list. the current list is dated January 7th, 2016.  If the quantity on hand count is "In Stock" it means they have over 20 left.  The N scale items are on pages 2-3.

It would be interesting to know the original counts before sell off to see what was the better seller.  I'm surprised at some of the items that they still have a large amount in the warehouse - H2a hoppers in all N&W schemes are all near 20 pcs.  They probably ordered more of them than the others though.  The PRR versions are still well stocked also.  All schemes of the H32's are well stocked except the undecorated.

BLI had pre-production samples of both, the Centipede and the M1 a year ago at the 2014 Springfield show.  I posted photos of both here at that time.

I don't recall myself but I don't think they had any lettering on them.  What I do recall is that the photoetched train phone antenna on the Centipede didn't look all that good (it looked flat and it seemed a bit too thick).

Claus posted photos of these from the Cocoa meet on the N scale PRR group. The centipede looked pretty good in the photos. And the train phone looked no different from BLI's previous PRR diesel train phone, which I don't have a problem with, and I'm glad they're there, one less detail to add.

While the model appears to capture the dimensions of the prototype, I have to say I'm not enamored with the Con-Cor-style pilot design to allow a behemoth engine to traverse 9¾" radius track.  I don't see that as advancing the envelope.  I would be doing what I did 30 years ago and attempt to "body-mount" the pilot to the rest of the body.

Ah yes, the M1a – sigh... I DID ask about the M1a. The conversation went something like this:

Me: I was wanting to ask you about an item that I saw on your display table last year but that I DON’T see on the table this year

Rep: What item is that?

Me: The M1a

Rep: The M1a is out already!

Me: No, I meant the N SCALE M1a

Rep: Oh, their working on it.

Me: When do you think they might be available?

Rep: Check the web site, those dates are usually pretty reliable

Me: You do know the locomotive was announced 11 years ago, right?

Rep: (No answer, just silence)

Me: You know, I’m 56 years old, I’m hoping to be able to buy one before I turn 80. After that it won’t matter since they won’t let me have a layout in the old folks home...

I lost all confidence in him after he said “Check the web site, those dates are usually pretty reliable”. So the answer is, WHO KNOWS!
