Regardless of whether it's the 'most expensive small loco' or not...those cab windows look odd.

I think it's the "glass" causing an optical illusion.  If you look close, the window frame molded into the shell (ignoring the glass) looks fine to me.

That's pretty much it. I just snapped the photos real quick with my iPhone 5, under the fluorescent lights of the studio.
Doesn't make for the best of pictures sometimes.

It's the glass insert. I think it's a little thick which reflects light and gives that window frame effect that I thought was a silver outline.  It makes the center post look thicker than it is.  From the parts diagram it appears that all the windows in the cab are one piece.  If you look closely at the other windows you can see the thickness there also.  It's just more pronounced on the side windows.  I don't know what can be done about it though.  Maybe in the next run Atlas can make the plastic glass thinner?

Mark Dance: finally got some video recorded on my friend's layout last night.

At speed step 1 of 28, it is a bit jerky in operation— I have NOT messed with any ESU decoder settings:

At speed step 2 it is smooth:

The control dynamics are pretty neat in that the sound and control appears to be "velocity sensed"— which is nice for a single unit.  Have no idea how this would work in an MU-lashup.

Here is my meager test video. It would have been longer but my phone's memory is pretty much full.

This is after I cleaned the wheels (they were dirty right out of the box), and as you can see, it ran well and it sounds quite good. I'm satisfied with it.

A few pics for you guys....the only complaint I have so far is the new jewel case(the old ones were what..... outdated? )........and as long as the loco inside is this nice, I don't mind that much...A few pics to answer questions...windows are the cause of the "funny looking" problem, the shell looks right...

I really like the ATSF scheme on these.  The Arnold S2 in ATSF was the first "nice" locomotive I owned (8th grade?), and seeing the Atlas version brings back memories.

Just emailed you the links directly, I am using HTML5 player on Vimeo.  Original videos are MP4, so perhaps it is a codec problem?

As Vonryan mentioned, do a couple burnouts and clean the tread of the wheels. Mine were a little sketchy at first till cleaning and a little run in. Who knows how long the parts have been made and awaiting assembly. Could be the reason for the dirtier than normal wheels.

Just got my DC E-L unit from MBK. Running great out of the box. Like the very thin handrails, even the end rails with yellow paint. Usually yellow gets applied on the thick side.

My son gave ours a workout over the weekend. It runs even smoother with a little break in on it. He was pulling an 8 car train on his mini layout with 4+% grades on it without a struggle.
