Pete gets the "Dremel delight"...... a specially chosen reefer with grooves so deep you could run the freakin Queen Mary through without touching the sides... it also features ladders so chunky that Campbell's is asking them to be their next soup spokes-ladders, door latches so oversized that they have cut a five commercial deal with a big and tall men's store and paint so thick that it doubles as turkey gravy on Thanksgiving.....

.... and modellers say there's no customization today and the manufacturer's are not responsive to internet input.... oh pish posh......

As the reserve deadline approaches, somebody tell me which paint schemes were in use on the NH before 1954.
I assume NHMan will chime in soon with the super answer

I thought this had been addressed on an earlier thread.

Cars that ran through southern New England before 1954?  That covers three decades.  But, that would be:

Collector Pack 1 (Swift early)
Collector Pack 2
Armour
Dugdale
General American
Hormel
Morris Rifkin
Oscar Mayer
Swift yellow
Tobin
Union Refrigerator
Wilson

These are "maybes" depending on the 1950s service date on the model:

Graver and Wimp in Collector Pack 3
American Stores
Dubuque
Hygrade's
Kingan

Definitely out for you:

Oscar Mayer and Dubuque in Collector Pack 3
Swift red

If you narrow it down to just 1950-1954, you lose more of the earlier schemes such as the Swift Collector Pack 1

For me, in 1956, it's narrowed down to Swift red, Dubuque, Kingan, Wilson.  Lots of Swift red.

Be nice if Rapido had put "Appearance by" dates instead of the general "'50s era" data. That's a lot of range for somebody trying to pin down a certain year to model.
Thanks for the info. A red Swift might timetravel into late '54 on my layout -- you can never tell.

I'm not sure what Bryan is referencing but there are two photos in the Morning Sun book of Swift's yard in Souix City from Sept. 1954 and there's only a couple yellow cars mixed in with a ton of red cars.

From what I see, if you're modeling 1950-54, you basically have a sliding ratio from almost all yellow in 1950 to almost all red in 1954.

Hopefully Rapido will offer the yellow scheme by itself at some point.

We certainly could but frankly didn't think it would be a good seller..... I'll throw it back in the mix for a second release if people are really interested.

Feel free to throw in anything accurate for Chicago and Kansas City in the mid 50s, that you aren't already doing.

Speaking of which- is there an online reference anywhere on which packing plants were where?  Swift, Hormel, Oscar Mayer, no problem, but many of the other names, it is harder for find accurate information on- where the plant was, era for the paint schemes, that sort of thing.

  the Rapido car is based on the GATX cars built 1939 to about 1941,so
  they didn't exist before 39,but ran thru the 60s.

    how about a one off based on the Kingan cars,but lettered "Klingon" ?
   just a wild thought.
   the RP CYC article on these cars has most of the Lesse's and their address's
   or until they merged or were bought out by other Packing Companies.
