New Atlas tooling: NSC 50' plug door

Here's one, says NEW 1/80 taken 3/22/1981 and appears to be in the as-announced scheme.  Of course, I've been wrong before...

And, looks like the scheme is good until at least 2007 2010 from what I've seen so far.

I'm pretty excited about these too.  I'm in for one CNIS and one GTW for sure.

From by personal observations track side, it looks like the NSC cars with the angled brace on either side of the door are largely in the website scheme. Some have also had vents added to the sides, but not all. I see a lot of NSC cars above the series Atlas is doing (ones with all vertical braces) in the as delivered scheme. IMO, it's likely that a few are still in as delivered, but I haven't found any shots in my collection.

FWIW, the GTW cars I see are all still in original blue, but that's not to say some haven't been overhauled and painted into the website.

I think these are great looking cars and I can't wait. Also I think it's a great sign that Atlas has another new N model.

Whether I have inside info or not — every new model they've released in the last few years has been equipped with body-mounted couplers.  They aren't going to move backwards in terms of model design.

Not doubting they are likely rare today in the 80's scheme. (nor that there are probably some still around)  There are at least a dozen on rrpict..com in that number series that were still in that scheme within the past 10 years though, and I've seen other pics of them. (I did a more thorough search back when True Line Trains initially had announced they were planning them at some point...of course before Atlas announced them in HO and all but declared them eventually in N.)   I've found three "bingos" of the old scheme appearing within era (early 2000's) and locale. (North Central Texas)  So, I feel pretty confident that one would not be out of place in the mix.

So I just realized that the TLT cars must have been the series with the vertical ribs.  I didn't recall which they were doing, but I was looking at both once Atlas did their HO announcement.  Nevertheless, the only real change to my previous comments is that one of my BINGO's was indeed the vertical ribs.   So I stand corrected.     EDIT, YET AGAIN: Found the TLT spreadsheet of proposed releases, and it appears they were doing both versions, which further explains my initial confusion.

That's assuming they're dated correctly, and that there aren't some mislabeled CN which is a good possibility if I recall correctly from my previous searches.

I will concede defeat when it comes to the BCOL cars...they stumped the chump.  Can't find any pics.   Guessing they have all moved on to another paint scheme?

Now you are presuming that they actually tell me what is going on ahead of time.  You have a better chance of getting information from Cory.

The test shot just came in, and it does have body mounts.  Photos as soon as I can pry it away from the guys.

CN has been shopping the arse off of it's older boxcar fleet over the past 10 years. Though not rare yet, the CN scheme these cars wore when new is getting less common on the boxcar fleet. I suspect this series has been almost completely shopped by now and that all those cars in the shots you've linked to are wearing a new coat of paint now... and graffiti.

The HS 50' newsprint boxes are getting very hard to find in the earlier scheme as well. IIRC, these are life extensions beyond the 40 year limit. It is remarkable, and sad, how fast the old freight car scheme is disappearing.

I wonder why the couplers look like a representation of cushion draft gear on the A end, but not the B end.    Seriously, those preproduction cars look nice.   I'm likely in for a few.

Look closer, the two views are completely different versions, not both sides of the same model.
