just looked through the N scale section, nice to see another run of hi-hood 38's!  8)

Although I don't really need more cars and engines, there was some good looking stuff in there!

Yes, that is correct for the freight cars.  The exact opposite was done for locomotives.  Units going to NS were patched with a PRR under the unit #, units going to CSX were not sublettered.

Yes, but NS does that with all their locomotives. I've seen high hoods in Camden with CG and SOU underneath as well,

I'd imagine the other sublettering is in relation to the heritage of the locomotive ie which merger it came from.

Do you know if that's a holdover from the Southern's practice of doing the same?

Thanks for the link, makes sense now. I was thinking NS got the properties due to the fact that they did the heritage locomotives for the 3 flags.

Originally yes, it had to do with bookkeeping (tax) purposes. As these units are rebuilt and repainted the sub text is being eliminated.

Power Stroke, I have three of the Atlas C420's in Lehigh and Hudson River paint, they all look and run great. I was just a little disappointed with the paint scheme used on the L&H #22, in my opinion the gray is to dark. The L&HR #26 and #29 to my eye are spot on and I've already added the #23 and #28 to my wish list  :D

Since Atlas released the C420, I have hoped they would do this scheme, however, due to the fact that this was the only C420 acquired by Guilford to get the grey/orange paint, I did not hold out much hope. The unit I have was custom painted, and decaled, and while it came out well, the Mehano shell is just flat out horrible, especially when compared to the Atlas release. Thankfully I no longer have to have one of my Atlas D&H C420s custom painted. I'll use the LL GP40 drive for parts, and toss the eyesore of a C420 shell.

Not really a whole lot I would personally be interested in except the Gons and Coils cars with all the Steel Company scheme's. Not prototypical but who cares, they should be nice. Wonder if Atlas would ever consider high hooding the GP30's and 35's.

I have seen one NS ex-CR car patched PRR.  I assume someone got a little carried away on that one.

Question on NS ex-CR cars, specifically coal cars:  What does the white dot above the reporting marks mean?  Some have it, some don't.

I recall seeing a string of Conrail MOW Gon's "NYC" written in chalk next to the initials... One of the gons had original PRR initials it then chalked "NYC".

I also recall a Conrail locomotive on the BNSF where the crew reported "The paperwork says NS, the blue card says PRR and the locomotive says Conrail... "

Also, I think in the early days, NS sub-lettered some of the locomotives with keystone logos instead of the typical "PRR".  ~Ian

I'll bet that BNSF crew was puzzled.  The loco can't be used without the blue card, and it has to match the locomotive, so that train wasn't going anywhere until they got an answer.

This was back in the time I remembered Keystone logos as sub-lettering.. so that may have been part of the issue..  Guy may not have realized the logo was intended to be sub lettering.

This isn't a logo.. but you can see they had some fun with the early patched units.

Since Atlas released the C420

I am waiting on spare parts. I hope the spare parts boxes will get refilled with this run (Handrails). Same for the GP 38-2, thank you Atlas.

I am once again disappointed Atlas hasn't come "full circle" with Western Maryland Red/White/Black on the GP40's ;)
