Being a PA area modern modeler is getting expensive

Ed:  Why?  I've never heard of the railroad, but the scheme isn't that bad.  Orange and gray have been used on diesels before, and go quite well together.  If nothing else it should be more visible at crossings than the NS scheme.

I think it would work much better if the Pennsylvania northern logo were done with larger lettering.

It's an absolute mess from a design standpoint.
1. The Rio Grande influences makes no sense for what the railroad is. It's just jarring seeing something like that in that area. I know W&LE did it, which makes this even worse, feeling super derivative and "me too".
2. The overall design is just off. There are design elements, flourishes, etc... jutting off in crazy ways. Why is there a random parallelogram on the side of the cab? Why is there a swoosh at the separation between the orange and gray? Why does that same swoosh not extend all the way to the natural boundary of the radiator grille

3. It REALLY bothers me that the swooshes off the top of the lettering face one way, while the big one on the side of the hood goes the other.

Honesly, the thing looks like they were applying dazzle camouflage to it.

Yeah...  I've been a closet Rio Grande fan since 1989 (my first trip to Colorado) and it belongs here, not in Pennsylvania.

Pennsylvania should be pinstripes, keystones, Tuscan, DGLE, can openers, or diamonds...not "Flying Rio Grande."

It wouldn't be nearly as bad if it wasn't so busy either. Lose most of the striping on the cab and nose and it'd be an instant improvement.

I thought their start-up power was Southern Rwy GP35's and that the Rio Grande style scheme came from one of the higher ups who worked for Rio Grande for a while?

It might actually be MORE dangerous at a grade crossing if the design elements make it harder to judge size or direction.
