Mark:  I certainly HOPE my experience with the U25C wasn't typical, but since neither of my NP would run right, I'm going to rewire the CB&Q and BN before trying them.  I posted my experiences as much to show how easy it is to fix the problems, if one does have them, as to complain about the quality.  Of course, if Arnold chooses to redo the pickup system it wouldn't hurt.

As for the size of an SW1, I doubt that it's any smaller than a MT Z scale F unit, and those run quite nicely.  I have two Nn3 boxcabs powered by them.

I don't think the "small size" of the SW1 is an issue, we've already seen on this forum at least one kitbashed SW1.

So if an individual can pull it off, and that was a fine looking model, a company can mass produce a model.  I would throw my faith behind what Charlie V. says.

That's Vince Kotnik's handy work in Modutrak.  He used the Kato drive.

We can all thank him, for his sacrifices to get the SW-1 to mass market.   :D

Vince does such beautiful work, and Modutrak is such a worthy stage for it.

(The SW-1 is a tempting loco for cement plant service on Tehachapi BC.)
