Paint looks good! Sight glass still appears painted on. Not a big deal for me, but I know it annoys a few of you. 8265 was assigned to the Boston Line in the late 90's so it will be nice to have that in my inventory.

I'm glad they're bringing it back. 

This was an A- loco.

If they correct the deficiencies, I believe it would be an A+.

For example, let's see if they fill in the holes for the winterization hatch.
Fine if your loco runs up north, but looked dumb on the southern ones.

Really guys? How many short fuel tank mid production GP38-2s ARE there on the N scale market? Just happy its here and the paint is really nice.

Not so fast. It's not just the grills that look like the north end of a southbound hound. It's the entire fan casting.

If it were just the grill, it wouldn't be bad, but it's the whole damn fan area, from the Bachmann-esque holes for the winterization hatches, to the "plate" the fans sit on, to the fan rings to the grills. I have a pair of the regular can opener ones myself, but I'm glad I only paid something like $40 for each of them. The ARE fixer-uppers if you want to intermingle them with nicer stuff (like the Atlas ones).

It's a real shame too, because I agree about the fuel tanks. They got THAT soooo right, I don't understand how they phoned the fans in so badly.

The paint might be nice, but that logo...FFS, that looks EXACTLY like the bozo-logo they used on the first run of HO scale GP15-1s. Then they wondered why they sat on the shelves...

Walthers aditude towards N scale is a self fulfilling prophecy..

Wow, Sean is right.  That logo is not correct for a Quality unit.  It looks more like the very early logo that was used in 1976 and early 1977 on certain freight cars.

The link above is what I mean.  If I were modeling the Quality era, I would buy the units, keep the number boards and handrails, fill in winterization holes (if present), move horn, add BLMA fans, strip, paint and decal.  At least the handrails are modeled in blue and the number boards would be done.  And as Ed pointed out, Walthers got the fuel tanks correct.  I may get both units and make projects out of them.  I would strip, detail, paint and decal them to their EMD delivered paint scheme.  I have always liked these units as I go my first cab ride in one of them 30 years ago.  They were regulars in all types of service in the 80's in the Pittsburgh area.  Thanks.

Not only does it generally look anemic, but the can-opener itself is wrong. The circular portion should only be 3/4 of a circle, and this is the second time Walthers has made a model where the logo curvature extends farther than it should.

Conrail has been around for almost 40 years now, and companies still can't get the logo right.

Y'all will have to forgive me.
I'm not a Conrail expert.  Still learning.
In fact my only interest is primarily because CSX inherited about 1/2 and because of some oddball stuff (like the T-6).

So, please help me understand what is so gosh-awful incorrect about this paint scheme.
I must be missing something.





In fact, my early/limited study of Conrail stuff is that they were not consistent with the Quality scheme.
There is variety in the placement, the direction of the Q (left or right).
