NSC NSE caters mainly to collectors which in general is more of a RTR model crowd. They buy, not modify, kitbash or customize. That would negatively affect any collectible value of an item.
I'm not saying that some more serious modelers aren't also members, but their main focus is to cater to the collecting crowd.
In this example, the same train can be fairly easily modeled by someone capable and willing to do it with not much effort or investment in time, but for less money.
