The hole between the actual screw holes in the bottom plate was never designed to hold a screw.  The screws are flat-head so the holes have conical shape. The center hole is just a straight hole. Also there is no threaded hole in the chassis under that hole to accept a screw.

Got mine back from Kato yesterday - runs great, no problems. It looks like they just sent me a new one (rather than trying to fix my broken one). No charge either, so thank you Kato  :D
