I'd keep the connection in place in the lower right around the depot.  You could have a train stopped at the depot, and still have the ability to run a second one.

I like what you have done with the plan, but are you still planning street running on the branch?  That might be too much.  Otherwise, I like how you have planned for expansion, especially the wye.  Nice job.

You might try evening the length of the switch back and spur to avoid annoying switching ops where you have to pull just a car or two off the industry.

Otherwise I like it.

One thing that bothers me is the double slip turnout - is that the correct name?
Even in N scale you have to be very careful with them - at least the ones I used ages ago. So I'm not sure about Z scale ones...

Agreed.  Double slips are a PITA to keep in gauge and even the really long N scale ones by Shinohara (if you can get one) are maintenance hogs.  If you replace it with back to back switches (one closer to your unnammed grey building) you can get the same sidings and curve without the hassle.

How feasible is a switching layout in Z scale? I ask because a couple years ago I bought some Z scale stuff but didn't have much success with it. To me it seems to only be good for continues running, like a loop. 

I only had AZL freight cars, and my only engine was the SD40-2 by Microtrains. I also used Microtrains track and thought that the smaller radii curve was far too sharp for the SD40-2. Will you be using a toothpick to uncouple or try the magnets? I never tried switching with equipment that was equipped with Microtrains couplers. Maybe that would of worked better.

I don't know yet how feasible it is, because this will be my first experience in Z scale. I'll find out soon... 
Mainly I will use this layout for running trains.

I have a MTL SD40-2 as well and mine runs just fine through the small radius (195mm). I think I'll try the magnets but I'm not sure yet.

Oh the MTL SD40-2 ran thru them just fine, to me it looked like too sharp of a curve for it. That's all.

Mostly she will run on the 'oval' which has the bigger radius.
I would like to get a SOO Line GP38-2 from AZL.

I started a new building. It is Millie's Cafe by @jimmo and the brick wall is a scaled down version of Doug Nelson's ( @dougnelson  ) Lagunitas Grocery.



What is now still white will be painted.
