What happened to the constantly changing, occasionally funny banners at the top of the site?

(No offense to Puddington's BN F-units.  Just wondering.)

There was a problem with the code so every morning Tom changes the image manually, and then changes it back.

I love the banner of DKS that has just been put up.  I do, however, miss him being around here on a regular basis.

Just how much computing power does it take to either randomly or sequentially present one of few dozen small bitmaps to probably less than 100 users at a time?  If it really is that much of a resource hog then it sounds like a piss-poorly written code!

a forum uses a lot of mysql connections to run, and cPanel and Plesk default to 151 connections, 1 is used by the control panel. Adding in an additional query might have been a little too much if there are other sites on this server

Ah, that makes perfect sense (if one knows what cPanel and Plesk are).  :)  At least I know what MySQL is.  8)  It is funny how programmers manage to over-complicate things for what used to be a simple forum with rotating images banner.   Technology is wonderful!

cPanel and Plesk are control panels, they create an interface that write and control the server, so you don't have to type out every command into the server.

Now if you know what you're doing, and have enough power on the server, you can increase the connections. Take a wild guess what I do for a living.

So basically what you are saying  :tommann: is that you haven't had a chance to fix the problem and you just don't feel like manually changing the static header image very often?
