How's the running board on these?  I know there was an etched replacement back in the day which usually means the factory one needs it.  With the other improvements, are the RBs going to be up to snuff?  Plano doesn't list the walkway for this car anymore.  I wonder if they would bring it back.

There's a reason for the etched metal replacements. They are not as klunky as they could be, but they are plastic and not see through. For me, changing is not a priority, but I can see where others might.

Okay, I just e-mailed them to see if they would do another run of the etched parts.  I'm a coin flip whether I'll get any.  Knowing there's a RB replacement would probably push me to take a chance on a couple.

I was looking at the Petrothene car and it's exactly the same as the Atlas one so I'm going with that for now.

Anyone have Freight Car Series Vol. 11.  Some of these could be in there maybe.

edit: Atlas does this car in O scale too.  I could go for a Sterling Salt car but not in the scheme offered.

Second question, it doesn't look like these have separate brake gear but rather little blobs molded into the shell.  Anyone ever try and detail that better?

Yeah, I expect they're all stretching things a bit, but hey just about everyone does it.   I can see picking up that Farm and Ranch Feed Supply one and just fading the logo almost completely out.   It could sell pretty easily for a generic faded grain car in the late 90's/early 2000's I think.   (As an aside, the Google image search for "Farm Ranch Feed Supply covered hopper" is full of greatness)   Purina Chows and Wayne Feeds would also be of interest if I could find any remote evidence of them ever existing.  Not holding my breath.

I just looked and the Wayne Feeds car is the only one of these schemes in there. it is weathered but loks like it used to be yellow.

I also thought I saw a picture of the Borax scheme on a Cylindrical not all that long ago.
