I guess I'm still waiting for a better 3D printing technology to become affordable and available to the hobbyists.   I just don't see the point of having a custom (very special, unique, and not available from manufacturer) locomotive made if it will end up looking like a Bachmann model from the 70s - with paint so thick that all the edges are rounded and the details (like door lines) are basically almost invisible.  But I realize that others might have different opinions about this.

I think the quality of Shapeways FUD is getting better; this is due to thinks like experience with positioning and cleaning etc.

Here are some shots of Chris Broughton PPR RT-624 No. 8955.

I think he has he done a fantastic job.

There are some of his work in progress shots on my blog if anybody wants to see them.

It depends on how well-calibrated the rendering ProJet3000 is.  I still much prefer getting XHD output from the ProJet3000Plus, which is twice the resolution of UHD (Shapeways' FUD), and it's possible to find prototype shops that will render at a reasonable price.

What service do you use Bryan? I tried an HD service recently that used a Polyjet system, touted to be the best I could get. $60+ later and the part wasn't as good as FUD rendered part. I'm a little shell-shocked.

Microscale PRR Hood unit diesels 60-21.

Good luck on the stripes.  Those are non-standard for the PRR.  My guess is that they are white similar to Santa Fe hood units.
