BLMA Train Line Air Hose Availability?
« on: September 11, 2014, 03:28:00 PM »

When I ordered some of BLMA's new flat cars yesterday, I read where they have Train Line air hoses. I went to the BLMA website and found out the air hoses are backordered.

So, Craig, when can we expect the Train Line air hoses to be back in stock? Thanks!

Hmm... probably just as
soon as my new air hose
line hits the market... I'm
thinking, bankrupt city
here...

Two scientists create a teleportation ray, and they try it out on a cricket. They put the cricket on one of the two teleportation pads in the room, and they turn the ray on.
The cricket jumps across the room onto the other pad.

I'm just wondering what is the point of asking this sort of question in its own thread....  doesn't Craig answer his email at BLMA?   If he does, then you will have your answer; if he does not then why should he answer here?   It's just more noise for everyone else to wade thru.

Not really, I'd like to know too, and this is something that been talked about here before when they stopped being available so it's also a continuation of that.

I'm sure Craig would rather answer here one time rather than 50 personal e-mails.

It takes two seconds to read the thread title. If you're not interested, skip the thread. What's to wade through?

Because the title by itself is insufficient to know whether I am interested or not.

There are more users on TRW than ever.   Think of it as sending an email to a large list, when you already know that you only want to address one person.

BTW if you need any extra hoses I have some that I can send you  ;)

I'd be pretty surprised if he actually got 50 emails on that (but I would love to see those 50 detailers posting pics of their work!)

To me it just seems a bit backwards if everyone else should be filtering thru topics for the convenience of one or two persons.  (My "Ignore Topics" is already overflowing.)

I basically agree with Ed.   You'd get a faster answer to the question by e-mailing BLMA.   Then you can share the answer on TRW.

This is the email I got from Craig when I asked back in January:

"You're right - the #69 Trainline Hoses are a much needed product, and something used on literally everything. The issue from our standpoint is that we have to re-do the mold for this part, and it just hasn't been a big enough profit generator to start that process. Our upcoming N Scale Bx-166 is supposed to feature the hose (I say supposed, because things can change prior to production) and I'm hoping we can use that part to address the missing #69's. For now, we will hopefully have something to show in 2014, complete with the new tooling as noted."

I'm still waiting and hopeful that he can come up with something.

Cheers,
Brian

Do you know of any shops that are selling them?  I've heard that before, but can't seem to find any... :?

Thanks,
Brian

Same mold as BLMA.  And the brass version was just lost-wax-brass versions of the plastic shots.

Same mold as BLMA.  And the brass version was just lost-wax-brass versions of the plastic shots.

My Precision Scale parts are smaller than the BLMA parts, which have always appeared to be a bit oversized to my eye.  The Precision Scale parts are not as sharply molded as the BLMA parts were, but, sharp enough.  My Precision Scale parts are brass, and they would naturally be a bit smaller than the plastic versions since there's a bit of shrinkage from wax or plastic master to brass.

For a true side-by-side comparo, representative plastic parts should be compared, but I only have the brass Precision Scale part.

Here's a photo comparing both the brass Prescision Scale plastic product and the BLMA brass product.  As you can plainly see, the parts from both manufacturers are not uniform, but the plastic BLMA parts obviously have sharper details:

To order the Precision Scale parts you need a catalog which they snail mail to you, and I believe they have a $30 minimum order.  The illustrations in the catalog are small drawings and may not be completely representative of the part delivered.

Also, it's pretty plain that they're not derived from the same mold as there are significant differences at high magnification that certain details are totally different.
