It is a very nice feature that could lead to an increase in posts,  which I assume is the point. After reading about some of the cost/management issues the question is really for you as to whether this is something you can afford to offer under the current structure. I didn't realize at the time how close we were to losing The Railwire until you stepped into the breach, and am hesitant to be a strong advocate for change that increases the load on you. Thanks for all that you do for us, and sorry if the karma thing got out of hand with "funny" comments. When are you going to send me your decal mask file?

Best wishes, Dave

I like it.  It's definitely easier than trying to copy over the Picasa URL.  I need to figure out a way to resize on my phone prior to upload.

Thanks for still wanting to do this!  I hit a snag when I realized that the SOO LINE font on the side of hoppers is not the same as the SOO font that appeared on the red/white locomotives.  So my artwork needed tweaking, and then I got distracted, etc. :tommann:

Why?

Well apart from my data plan usage,   I guess I'm used to and like 800px images.

I could get used to 1024px, but I'm still using way to much data to upload.

Couldn't Tom have the automatic resizing set for 800 pixels?  I agree that width of 800 seems optimal for the photos in the forum.  I would also vote for 800.

But I'd still have to upload 2.5mg from my phone which normally wouldn't hit my data plan too bad, but when I'm out of town, I do get towards the limit.

I found a resizer that should work fine (not 100% sure on the quality yet) and the uploads are only ~250k.

This should be my last test.

I'll probably set it back to 800px...since that looks better on the phones.

Obviously, if you can resize before upload, that would be better for both of us.

If I "Uncheck the attachments you no longer want attached", will that delete the image from the DB or file system or do you always have to do that manually?

Yep, deleted from the db and fs.  One more difference between this system and a gallery.

Okay, thanks.  There's your 5 megs back.   :D

And thanks for setting this up.  There have been several times I wanted to post something I caught with my phone (proto and model), but the steps to post it from Picasa to TRW made me lose my interest in doing so.

That is my motivation too.  Camera->Aperture->Upload to Picasa->Copy Link->Start Thread->Paste Link is too long of a workflow.  Phone Camera->Start Thread->Upload is much better.

I had erroneously assumed that a full blown gallery would do the trick.  I think this little modification does a better job instead.
