That is an interesting study and contrast.
I notice the windows on the SW1500 are wider and further apart than the Atlas version of the MP15. The cab seems a bit longer, too. And, is there really one more stanchion on the MP15 over the SW1500? (edit - both have 7 stanchions upon looking at Railpix, at least in some cases. In others it looks like a battery box reduces them on the SW1500 at least on one side)
I wonder if this is a function of knowing the hood width is too wide, and just proportionally scaling the cab drawings of the proto (in both length and width) as the best way to get the proportion to look right(ish)? Sort of us making mountains steeper because they look proportionally more right in 1:160 scale......
BTW, I actually like the wiper on the MTL. If it improves contact reliability for a lighter switch engine, I am willing to make that kind of visual compromise for running quality. Just MHO
