Might happen? They said tooling is done, looks like it is happening. Just hope a PRR J1 follows...

Pardon my ignorance.... these two different models. I assume the one without the cab is the Pennsy M1, what it the one with the cab?

I hope you can pardon my skepticism.  This product was announced in late 2003.  I remember because I was in Iraq when I saw the announcement...not long after we invaded.

It has seen a dozen delivery dates come and go.  I'd written it off completely.  But now, for the first time in many years, I have some degree of hope for this product.

Fair enough Dave, it's just this time there's actually something to see and look at, all those previous announcements had either drawings or images of the HO models with them. I think a bit more weight can be put into the current announcement that these will actually show up.

And as for the other shell, I'm stumped on what it could be (the facebook page makes no mention of what it is).

Good eye Dave.  I looked at the HO offerings and didn't see an all weather cab on any of them.  Between that and the sand dome, I'm thinking it's something that's pretty specific.

Could it be a non-US prototype made for a different customer?

That is a very good guess - it does look like a model of a European steam loco.  The cab and the sand pipes/dome are clearly European looking. The spacing of the sand pipes makes this a ?-8-? loco.

I'm not very familiar with Canadian prototypes. Did any have rectangular sand boxes?

Not sure, the cab looks Canadian-ish....
