Jimmo:  Not if this is where I think it is.  I doubt that it rains enough there for erosion to be a problem. 

At least one Atacama Desert copper mine was approved by environmentalists due to their inability to find ANY life at the site, not even bacteria.  A few years back NASA took copies of the original Mars Viking life detectors to another spot in the Atacama.  They didn't find anything there either.  There are places where it hasn't rained in recorded history.

Obviously this spot isn't that dry, but it doesn't look like it rains often, or heavily, even as isolated storms.
