Based on what has been said here, it should though you will have to run wires from the decoder to the motor. Just switch the brass motor contacts top to bottom to get the lower motor tab above the frame to wire to. Be sure to isolate  it from the frame with tape

I have to pull apart my an SW in the fleet, but it just occurred to me that this might work in Atlas GP-9's for those low-nose applications, replacing the lightboard under the long hood. And use an SM/LED with magnet wires for the nose headlight. Must head to the lab now....
