Next step, I laminated the drawings to some .020 styrene sheet, and laid out the walls and floor plans.
 

These were cut out to form the core of the building.  I trimmed the window openings prior to cutting out the walls themselves to help keep everything square.


Walls all trimmed and openings cut. 



I added the necessary bracing for the corner blocks, roof supports, and wall junctions, then built up a mock up, lightly tacking the corners together to do a test fit.









And the money shot.



I haven't cut the door opening yet, because I'm going to use some castings I have on hand, but haven't selected the final set up.

The next step will be to un-tack the corners, and peel the paper drawings off the surfaces so I can paint the inside surfaces flat black to prevent light leaks.  I'll overcoat that with some appropriate interior colors, since the large window openings will make much of the insides visible from the aisle.

Then I can start assembling it, adding the interior details and lighting as I go along.

Kinda reminds me of a more portly version of Kelco, at Baltimore and Haven Streets.

This is more specifically the building I had in mind.  1414 Key Highway.  It was originally the home of King Syrup, and I worked there in the mid 1980s when it housed a printing company on the third floor.
The entry under the big 1414 was actually a rail siding that came into the building to serve King.  It, along with the rest of the harbor belt loop, was out of service by the time I worked there.

I'm going for the concrete post and beam look with the brick accents around large windows.

Now that I'm looking at the pictures again, I might need to go in and tweak how it gets trimmed out...

Perhaps more importantly I'll need the dimensions of the foot print that's available on the layout.  Will you be building it properly into the slope?  Or are you "plywood plains" there?

I'm not really worried about the footprint available on the layout.  I'm thinking this is more for version 2.0 and I will make it work for version 1.0.  If I need to step out the footprint a little bit, I will do so.  It's an iconic location for the location, so I'll make it work one way or another

Been pretty busy with work lately, so the printing building has been shunted to the back burner. 

I have enjoyed running a train around and around while I work.  It's fun to watch the headlight weave in and out of the buildings and trees.

But it's also pointed up the need for some staging so I can run more than one consist.  Right now it's the old 0-5-0 switcher.  I have a lead that runs to the wall over my desk,

The space above my desk allows for a narrow shelf that will dead end into an existing tall book case, so a stub-end yard with a run around track is the likely scenario.

And if you're like me, you'd be pretty excited to know that the space extends exactly 80" from the layout edge to the book case... i.e.  the same length as a hollow core door!  And, I happen to have one 12" wide, and one 16" wide in back stock to choose from.  I will have to cut a bit of it out to allow it to nest around my flat screen monitor (there's about 6" between it and the wall for about 24") but there's a good 4' plus for the yard tracks.

If I use the 16" panel, I might have enough room for an engine house...

Time to get out the graph paper.

Enginehouse placement seems a tad awkward. I also discovered that there isn't room for as many yard tracks.

This uses Atlas #5 switches (#7s would make matters worse).
