Noise polution!

I have been waiting for MBTA's new MP40s ever since they purchased a few ex Utah MP36. The MP36 is a very quiet engine.... almost no noise until it is on top of you.

Well I saw the new MP40 in operation tonight. Its LOUD! Like non-HEP equipped F40PH loud. The engine bay is almost entirely open; you can see right through into the generator. The front is all purple and black, which wouldn't be so bad if it didn't have "quarterback" eye paint under the windshields. What an ugly beast.

MP36:

And the "war paint" money shot:

Ugh... Can we please go back to the ACL inspired scheme?
There's a shyness found in reason
Apprehensive influence swallow away
You seem to feel abysmal take it
Then you're careful grace for sure
Kinda like the way you're breathing
Kinda like the way you keep looking away

Do schematic of this locomotive exists anywhere on line? If these locomotives are setup like current EMD and GE locomotives, what you are looking at through the grills near the rear of the locomotive would be air compressor equipment, oil filter tanks and traction motor blower equipment. Unless these locomotives are different from all other locomotives, the Alternator is just behind the cab. The front of the diesel engine actually faces the rear of the locomotive.

I'm surprised the MBTA locos can be considered the same locomotive as GO or Sounders MP40s, while looking completely and utterly different.

LOL.

HSP46 not MP40, they're a GE powered machine (same builder tho!).
