The trucks have metal wheels. I popped off both trucks and put them on the track using a power pack with volt & amp meters.

One truck was fine. The other created a dead short. So Fox Valley gave me a B&O wagon top box car with one bad truck.

had the same thing happen to me, but with a BLMA wheelset. SHIFT happens! Neither side had an insulator, now who would look at every wheelset in a bag of 100? A smart one, that's who!

I finished up this Atlas SD35 that I painted for the Copper Basin Railway.  Not a true locomotive, but I thought the scheme looked pretty good on the high hood.  It's got all the usual BLMA detail parts plus Micro Trains Z scale couplers and .010" brass handrails.

Finished up the wye this weekend!

Cork went down last weekend in the garage:

Moved it indoors for trackwork:

And back out to the garage for wiring and testing.  Everything works, except for the acetone based texture spray I tried out...

Also had gorgeous weather last night so me and a friend found a country road along the Amtrak route, drank some beer, gazed at stars, and watched the 5 and 6 speed through.

Doug, impressive, great job. The handrails do the trick, the model does not look N scale at all, well done.

Seeing all these brass handrails really makes me want to do them on my U23B's; I'll have to go dig up the threads and start learning how to make them

Nice work!   Those wire handrails really make it look massive!

I saw a sign like that on the way into Washington D.C.

And believe me, I'd like to find its counter part that says "reentering normal space" but so far its eluded me.

Rich, sorry to hear you lost the collection.  But glad you're back.

Thanks for the compliments guys!  Those brass handrails are tricky, and once you do one locomotive, you gotta do them all.  You can see I got a little wavy on the engineer side.

By the way, all of the copper color is Vallejo paint, for those of you who wondered how it works on a full paint job.  It's great paint to use, but I found it had to be mixed slightly thicker than what you are used to for PollyScale and ModelFlex.

Kind of.... but EVERY model RR item I ever owned is gone. Liquidated without me knowing during a long ugly divorce. Oh well, its a clean slate and life is MUCH better these days!

It's the getting there, not the being there. So, this means you just have new opportunities to blow peoples minds (when you decide to model Conrail in the late 70s).

I haven't bought any equipment in months and months. The only thing I have been buying are Shapeways items.

Wasn't me either, I get all my stuff brand-new from Sharper Image or SkyMall.

Funny you should mention that.

I went to a school where the parking lot was in VA and the schoolhouse was in NC.  The "Now entering..." signs were on either side of the fence.

Is this kind of like the "No Smoking Beyond This Point" signs?  I've never figured out whether they mean point in space or point in time.  And if they mean point in space, they never include the actual point on the sign.  So maybe they should just use the sign as the "point" and say "...Beyond This Plane".  Well, that just opens up another can of worms because you're not supposed to be smoking on the plane anyway...
