Does anybody know where I can get spares form for a Life Like Heritage 2-8-8-2?   In paticular I need the con rods and valve gear from the left hand side of both motors.

Yes Walthers took over that line of models and (when they have them) will supply replacement parts.  I have called them and spoke to their repair people. They were nice to deal with and they did provide me with replacement parts for that model.  But since it has been a while since the last run, they might not have many parts left.  The parts I received were taken from models they cannibalized.

bought on of these, brand new.
first time out of the box, on rail, not even fully into the first turn, the left side rods came off and bent before I could stop it.

sent to Walthers service dept.
they repaired/replaced and did so for no cost due to it being brand new.
but, it took 6 months and the same free service will not be provided again.
warrantee was only for first repair.

Walters was going to charge me $125.00 until I shared with them the info again about it being new.
that would have been just shy of what I purchased it for in the beginning.

to be honest, I am afraid to take it out of the box and run it.
I think there is a design flaw that causes this to happen.

perhaps I am paranoid
but it seems like I find many of these needing the same fix.

best wishes with yours.

sincerely

I don't know what happened to the parts.  The loco was given/donated to the club in this state, runs like a dream, just no valve gear.

I have e-mailed Walthers.

Thanks,
