A "Burlington Route" Survivor in 2014

This guy is waiting to collect old ties from a BNSF maintenance project northwest of Fort Worth, TX:

I've seen a few CB&Q hoppers in the past 10 years or so, but never one with the signature Burlington font and even the venerable "Burlington Route" logo still in tact, albeit fading away. Still, it was a neat find...made my day.

Very cool Doug. Thanks for sharing this.

Best wishes, Dave
If you lend someone $20, and never see that person again, it was probably worth it.

Great catch! Even more remarkable is that some little peon hasn't tagged it yet.

The lack of tagging is a little surprising, but they seem to prefer clean cars with good paint.  Maybe this one was just a little too ragged for them?

Sure they existed.  I saw them in Pasco, WA after the merger, and in 1984 they, along with similar GN and BN 4-bay cars, were very common in CSX's (was it still Chessie then?) Russell, KY yard.  Like Doug, I'm surprised that one survives in CB&Q paint, even if there isn't much paint left.  This one had to have been painted no later than Dec 1968, as cars were being delivered in BN Green in January of 69.  So its paint is at least 45 years old!
