Hi Mark. I was looking through your freight car encyclopedia, and I didn't see a listing for the Micro-Trains PS-2 3-bay covered hopper, like this:

http://www.trainworld.com/manufacturers/micro-trains-line/micro-trains-n-scale/micro-trains-freight-cars/mtl-hoppers/Micro-Trains-09600110-PS-2-Covered-Hopper-Frisco/

Will you be adding it soon, or have I completely missed it on your site?

Hmm... I thought I saw it,
or am I hallucinating...?

Two scientists create a teleportation ray, and they try it out on a cricket. They put the cricket on one of the two teleportation pads in the room, and they turn the ray on.
The cricket jumps across the room onto the other pad.
"It works! It works!"

You mean this one?:

http://www.spookshow.net/freight/mtevans3bay.html

No, that's an Evans hopper. The PS-2 covered hopper has a different rib pattern, among other changes.

Hmm... all I want to
know is, can they ship
bananas in 'em...?

Anybody know the story on the prototype? Same one that dates back to the early 50's, or...?

Thanks,
-Mark

High-Side PS-2 4427.  It's the successor to Exactrail's Low-side car.

The 4427 first came out in the mid-60's.  I don't know off-hand when the High-Side cars first started.

Here's some info, no uber specific to that model but might help.  http://fcix.info/ref_sheets/ref006.pdf

Very nice cars, btw.  Wish they would make more.

This is what MTL says about the Frisco car -

This PS-2 100 ton covered hopper is painted gray with black Frisco herald and lettering. It was built in 1971, serviced in May 1976, and runs on Barber Roller Bearing trucks. This group of 200 hoppers came from Pullman-Standard in March 1971, adding to the already 800-strong group purchased and leased in 1967. All received gravity outlets of either Wine or Miner types, except for a small group of 23 that were equipped with gravitypneumatic outlets. The 1971s came with Morton and Ellcon equipment.

So, I guess '67 would work as a general "first built" date?

Thanks,
-Mark

I looked through the PS Color Guide and could only find one example of a High-Side 4427 and it was built in '67 so I guess that's as good as any date.

And FWIW, the first 4427 was build 12-63.

 :(
the MT Milwaukee info is for a Magor Aluminium 4750,not the Evans cars.
Evans started building the 4780 CUFT cars about 1977,not 1966.
there have been articles on the Evans cars in RMJ and possibly MM.
seems the Evans cars were Steel.
for Magor info see the Magor book.
