As far as me, I started a project for a friend that has been setting on the bench for quite a while:

Work has been progressing slowly on the Grand Trunk Southern but here is an update.  Staging yard has been installed.

Yard throat being completed "On the Bench" prior to installation.



Tortoise machines installed on the yard throat.



A second identical yard throat for the other end of the yard is also underway and is about 75% complete with the switches and tortoise machines installed.

The mainline has been laid and is operating, and I will post pictures to the Grand Trunk Southern thread in the layout section in the next few days.

It's a TrainCat kit. I have two to build. So far this one is all soldered. I'm trying to avoid using CA. Some things may just be better with CA but for the structure, I want to solder as much as possible as this will be used at Ntrak shows and who knows what could happen to it there.

Well with an Alco prime mover she's born and bred to be a smoky joe! Add to that tons of new oil, WD40 to help uncease her pistons, ether to help her start up, she's bound to put on a show. But she's the only LRC in working condition and getting her started is a significant achievement on the way to seeing her grace the rails in excursion service.

That's nice and all, but when are guys going to tool it in N scale?  You do know you've managed to get a died in the wool KCS modeler to buy a GMD-1 right?  So where's the OTHER exotic loco he wants to own?

What little train work there was this week was primarily squeezed in around a new kitbashing project:



Or rather "Kitchen-bashing" project:



All kidding aside, I managed to get some Tamiya weathering powders:



And try them out on a BLMA car:



I applied the streaks from the top using the tiny q-tips I got, and the mud from the bottom using the supplied applicator pad.  The rust stains were done with the point of the small q-tips, and the smudged with the sides.  Not sure how I feel about this product, but with the train room behind the construction zone line fore the moment, I may get good with these over the next few weeks.

Your staging yard looks impressive. Well done. It looks like it took a fair amount of track to get to that point. I can't wait to see it with the trains lined up.

Nice!  That's an old house!  It was built when 2x4s were actually 2" by 4"!!  Funny what you find inside of the old walls!  My GF's house is over 100 years old and we find all sorts of surprises hidden in the walls (no skeletons yet).

yep - built in 1916 (and out town didn't get water service until 1920).  We've found a couple of old bottles . . . but not Jimmy Hoffa . . .
