accuracy of Atlas N C630

hi, not hoping to start an anti- manufacturer discussion but to get a few tips for scratchbuilding in TT.

for some reason ,there are very few pics of shots of roofs of real C630s online (do US railroads lack overpasses?)

i'm therefore hoping I can use shots of the N scale atlas unit online as the basis for the roof detail of a TT scale C630.

this is a method fraught with potential for error, but given there's not much data, unavoidable.

i'm hoping before going down that path, to ask whether there is any information on whether the atlas N C630 is accurate, particularly in the roof area?

with regards to phase specific details (did C630 have phases?)  i'm hoping to build one of the ACL units.

cheers,

ben

Here are 17 pages of pictures of C630s. They are mostly from the sides but there are some from above. http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/modelthumbs.aspx?mid=449&Page=1

thanks gents. any views on the N atlas unit would be welcome.  stuff has to be measured and not always easy to do from photos.  :)

Hi Ben
On the whole, the Atlas C-630 is a very good reproduction of the prototype.  The biggest issue to me is the cab side window location.  When Alco built the first Centuries, the side windows were centered along the cab side.  Later when they lengthened the side at the front end, on late C-628s, C-430, C-630 and C-636 models, the window location remained where it was, thus the side windows now appeared offset to the rear.  Nit picking maybe, but just not quite correct.

PM me and I will send you some roof photos of WNY&P C-630M #630.

Cheers
Steve

Here is some rework of the HO Bowser Cab that may give you some detail info.  http://dieseldetailer.proboards.com/thread/12429/bowser-c630-cab-question

I'm on a mental health day so  I'm not at work :D  but I think I have drawings I can scan and send...will look tomorrow.

Hullo Joe, thank you, this is a great help. Confirms the details of the real images and gives the proportions of all those squares and rectangles.  If a roof plan exists that would be great.

Cheers,

Ben
