Weekend Update 4/20/14

Stu, my first layout had two turnouts less than that.  Getting trains running is the key first step.

More final assembly of the bridge and the first ballast is in place.

ScottL, as impressive as it looks now, imagine how good it will look when you finish the painting. 

I hope the layout design allows visitors to get an up close eyeful of all the amazing work you did on that bridge.

This weekend, I managed something that's been on the to-do list for a very long time: I've made a start on my first layout.



Crappy smartphone pic doesn't hide nearly enough of the crappy construction, track alignment, etc but the whole idea of this 2x4 beastie is to get some practice before attempting an around-the-walls monster.

Looking forward to making ore progress next weekend!

Sorry, I sold the layout short - it's actually 2'6" by 4' (I think the 2x4 dimension is stuck in my head from reviewing too many 4x8 plans in Horribly Oversized with a view to reducing them down to Nice scale)

Did you etch those unique handrails as well with their diagonal braces? Every single one the Erie owned was used in my area.

I did the version B&O owned, which had fairly typical handrails.    There were a few other differences between it and the ones Erie had.

It is possible they weren't built with the handrail and Erie added them like all their other switchers, but none of the others have those odd braces. Will have to dig up more info.

Finally finished this insulated boxcar, only took me 7-8 years.  At this rate, well not sure if I'll ever finish anything.



Car was an experimental composite insulated car.  Only two built for BN, now in MoW bridge building crew service.

Thanks, figured it was about time I finish a project.  Otherwise my list will never be completed.

Guess it helps I don't go to bed until 2-3 hours after the wife and baby, so 2-3 hours of train/TV time.
