I picked up all six road numbers at my LHS this past Friday, and they all have crown trucks. The printing is very good on this batch, better than previous runs. The wheels still like to fall out of the trucks though. No matter, as I will be switching to metal wheels and body mounts. What do you think of the ride height on these cars? It seems high to me. I am thinking about how to lower them, and I thought about drilling out the center of the crown truck bolster so that it fits over the cast on washer on the metal underframe (like that which has been suggested to do on Atlas USRA boxcars with Bettendorf trucks-which works by the way if you attach them with a 2-56 screw). I am not sure about how to attach the truck (2-56 screw doesn't work since there is not enough meat to tap, at least this was the case on my initial attempt). The truck pin will have a ton of slop, so a washer between the bolster pin top and underside of the truck is in order. I really wish they would have used a separate washer between the bolster and underframe rather than a molded one. This would satisfy those who want to run body mounts (remove washer) and those who want to run truck mounts (use washer). I thought Trainworx did this approach on their four bay hoppers (the B&LE ones I bought do this I believe). Thanks.
