On may 16th all I had was that piece of paper. I didn't even have a lot of the kits then. And I drew some of the turnouts in CAD just for the printouts. I had though it was taking forever till I realized when I posted was only a month ago.

I bought some unitrack for the first time and they have 6" R turnouts so I could have done something. If they had 6/7" curved turnouts then this would be all unitrack. Either way it isn't a competition

That's Chris: taking what I did and doing in better! Really, you've nailed the look I wanted and didn't quite achieve. Very Earl Smallshaw. Love it.

I would say nowhere near better, just different. 

Didn't think the roads would work even after they were sanded. Still looked black. DKS and Chris, wondering what a Western version of the TTC would look like? You have compressed
some awesome railroading into 2x4. My idea would be to take Bob Smaus' Los Angeles/SP themed
layout. http://www.bobsgardenpath.com/MRmap300dpi_500.jpg is the track plan. You could take
only the downtown part with some of the "Rat Hole/The Patch" on Alameda Street. It could look
alot like http://www.bobsgardenpath.com/trains_cityview.html. Bob has rebuilt a part of the original
layout (see below) - Wonder what a track plan for the new Smaus layout would look like in a 2x4?

Stolen, I got mine from Anyrail using said unitrack 6" as I could only find them in packs of 2 for $70 so I'm hand laying my own. Hopefully will have mine finished today.

I think that both David's and Chris's efforts are shining examples of the attributes of the small layout - from concept to operational in rapid fashion with scenery and details close behind. You end up with a simple, satisfying layout in weeks, not years.

JP, that's exactly what has sucked me into the world of microlayouts, minilayouts, modules, and dioramas. Being able to go from idea to servicable and/or finished product quickly and inexpensively (or in my case, without spending anything) is just fantastic. And the ability to bring it outside for natural light photos, especially ones taken on-location, is a HUUUUUGE bonus.

David's White River and Northern web site is gone? His track plan page now contains either Chinese or Japanese writing. Not sure if his website has been hacked?  David's NZT Products website is still up and running.
